At least three persons were killed and 56 others injured on Sunday after Boko Haram suicide bombers attacked a locality in Lake Chad, an Agence France Press (AFP) Report said.
The Lake Chad attacks came only a day after close to 70 people were massacred by Boko Haram terrorists on Saturday night in Dalori village near Maiduguri, the biggest city in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, and after scores of people were killed in Adamawa and Chibok, also in Nigeria’snortheast, as well as in Bodo, and Kerawa in Cameroon’s far north.
AFP said the first attack in the Lake Chad region on Sunday took place in Guie when a suicide bomber riding on a bike blew himself up, killing one person and injuring 32. Not long after, a second suicide bomber blew himself up in the locality of Miterine, killing two persons and injuring 24, AFP said, quoting military and security sources.
Boko Haram has killed more than 1200 people in neighbouring Cameroon since 2013, including 67 soldiers and a policeman, the government said in a report in January.
In Nigeria, more than 25,000 have been killed with over 2.5 million people displaced and hundreds of thousands of children sent out of school since 2009. Hundreds have also been murdered in Chad and Niger in recent months and years.
President Muhammadu Buhari called on Nigerians on Sunday to be more vigilant and own the war on terror after the northeast massacres. The President said Boko Haram terrorists who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in March last year and have since modelled their barbarism after the Middle East killers, have been weakened and have resorted to hit and run attacks.
But those hit and run attacks have killed hundreds of people within a week in Nigeria just a month after Buhari announced that the terrorists had been “technically defeated”. In Cameroon, Boko Haram attacks are so regular that it is becoming difficult for simonateba.com to keep track of them all.
